Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of film can you process?: Colorcraft can develop all C-41 color negative and B+W negative film.
What B+W developer do you use? We develop all B+W film in Kodak HC-110. Its a classic one-shot developer. Each roll is developed with its own developer and then discarded. It works well with all traditional cubic grain and tabular grain films. HC-110 is prized throughout the industry for developing very old film while minimizing base fog. We only use Formulary TF-4 alkaline fixer for B+W process.
Do you offer any other B+W developer options? I often keep various raw chemicals on hand and can mix up a batch of Kodak D-23 or D-76. I also keep 510 Pyro for some personal projects. Have a special request or questions about different developers? Email us or call the lab at 910.239.7448 and let's chat!
What film formats can you process? We can process 35mm, APS Advantix and 120 roll film only at this time. We cannot develop 4x5 sheet film.
Do you offer PUSH/PULL developing? Absolutely. We can push or pull all C-41 and B+W rolls. There is a flat $2.00 upgrade charge per roll. Please indicate the # of stops to push or pull on the order form.
What about TMAX P3200 and DELTA 3200? Does that require pushing? Both of those film stocks will developed as default 3200 box speed unless noted that you want it developed as 1600, 1000 or 6400 for example. There is a push/pull charge only if you request developing for any speed other than 3200.
What scanners are used at Colorcraft Lab? We scan all roll film using a 36MP DSLR: Nikon D800 for high resolution scans. We also use an Epson V850 for special formats, including fluid wet mount scanning. The Epson does a fantastic job with medium and large format negatives. 110 and APS are scanned on the Plustek 8300i @ 3600ppi. 35mm 2x2 mounted slides are scanned with the Nikon D800.
What about color negative C-22 process? Unfortunately, we cannot process C-22, such as Kodak Kodacolor-X
Can you process Kodak Vision 3 motion picture film? Colorcraft cannot process ECN-2 film at this time. We can process all Cinestill and Candido film as the remjet has been removed. We may add ECN-2 to our processing line in the future as we are testing out various ECN-2 chemicals at this time.
Can you process E-6 film? We are not currently offering E-6 processing. Perhaps in the future if the demand is strong we can add an E-6 line.
How do I get my scans? You will receive a link from wetransfer.com to download your scans. You can add a DVD to your scanning order if you wish to have your images saved to optical media.
What resolution is my film scanned? We have 3 resolution options. A standard scan @ 3600x2400 px, a deluxe scan @ 5000x4300 px and a RAW-DNG scan @ 7300x4900 px. The RAW scans are delivered unconverted and uncorrected.
Are the film scans in 8 bit or 16 bit? Both standard and deluxe scans are offered only in 8 bit as JPEG does not support 16 bit. The RAW-DNG scans are supplied as 16 bit files, saved in DNG format.
Can I get TIFF files instead of JPEG? Sure! Just let us know on the order form for roll film processing by circling the TIFF option. There is upgrade charge of $5 per roll for TIFF scans. TIFF files from the Nikon D800 scans can be over 100MB each.
What color space do you use for film scanning? All film scans are saved in the Adobe 1998 color space. We do not offer an sRGB scan.
What is your turnaround for developing and scanning film? Currently your film will be developed, scanned and files uploaded in 3-5 days from the time your rolls enter the lab queue. We are happy to provide text and/or email updates with the status of your processing order.
